About The Columbia Knitting Meetup Group

There's the hint of fall to come in the air. We're thinking wool and bamboo and every other kind of yarn and know that if we plan ahead, we'll have fabulous sweaters, hats and mittens for the winter.Some of us are overjoyed with the change in the weather and are sporting new sweaters and ponchos.The group grows every week and we have over 210 plus members. The record attendance has been right around 40 We meet at Panera's in the Dobbin Center, the one with the WalMart on the corner, from 7 PM until closing and from all indications, they are thrilled to have us. Some come early and have something yummy to eat, while others drop in around 7 and stay until 9. We have every level of crafter from the very experienced, to some who are learning every Wednesday with us. Even if you have never picked up a stick but have a desire to try, you will have a great time. Someone is always willing to show you how to get started and what to do next.

From time to time we decide as a group to do a charity project. So far we have made scarves for the Red Scarf Project, Chemo hats for The Claudia Mayer Foundation. For a previous project we made helmet liners for the soldiers serving in Iraq. You are never required to join in the project - do as much or as little as you like.

Every once in a while one of our members offers a min workshop or a knit a long and we have seen how much fun it is to "knitalong".

We learn from each other and enjoy the whole process of crafting with yarn. All fibers welcome!

On the last Friday of every month we meet at also at Panera's at 7 for a Finish it or Frog it event. And on the third Wednesday of every month some of meet at APL for a Knitting Guild Meeting. No matter what else is happening, every Wednesday night you'll find us happily knitting at Panera's in Columbia.
