“ thanks i'm going to try to make it. ”
“ I still cannot contact Lee. I have called her cell phone and left messages and left e-mails with no response. All I can do is post another message about the location of the meeting and hope that everyone sees it. I will also post my cell phone number in case anyone needs to call for directions to Mojo's. I will contact the "meetup" people to see what we can do about maybe appointing another organizer. I don't know what else to do about that part of it.
Angela ”
“ Thank you for letting me know. ”
“ Prince Charming sounds cute, but you don't have to do that. Socks are pretty forgiving, and doing them toe-up you can increase or decrease when you are just starting the foot. Go for it. P.S. I have upon occasion given socks to Gloria that were too small for me. I haven't seen her wearing them, so what the heck. I enjoyed making them, and that's what it's all about, right? Have you priced socks at Wal-Mart? I mean, if you really want a pair of socks.... ”
“ I forgot to say "Yes, I think it would be a good beginning sock." Before the next meeting you could measure the circumference of your foot (or the foot of the person for which you are making the socks) and the height of the leg part of the sock. Then, after you have made a selection and purchased your yarn, you can make a sample (or "swatch") with the needles you are planning to use. Get your stitches per inch and you can figure how many stitches you need to go around your foot. I can help. ”
“ Why not go to your LYS (local yarn shop) and ask to be shown the sock yarns, maybe you'll see Angela. I like the ones with a self pattern, like a stripe or other fair-isle-looki
ng pattern, but check them out. Many of them have a picture of a completed sock on the band around the skein. I have my own favorite way of starting the toe. I'll bring some small dpn's to the meeting. See you there if it doesn't storm and snow, or whatever. ”
“ I ran out of room in the last post. I will continue the thread. Here is a website with some help if you are knitting toe-up socks: http://webdesignsbybarb.com/tostetoes...![]()
There are others; I just can't find them right now. Stay tuned. ”
“ We really enjoyed seeing y'all, too. If you want to knit two socks at once on a "Magic Loop" you can do it with a 40" needle. I've done it with 32" but it's kinda cramped, even with a grandchild's pair. It's easier to do the cast-on and first two rows (or so) on double pointed needles, I think, but if you want to, you can do everything on the one long needle. I have forgotten how -- it's tricky. There is a website with detailed step-by-step instructions. I'll see if I can find it and post it. !! ”
“ Yes, please don't give up on us. We ARE going to make a meetup, one of these days. We are a couple of "active senior citizens," and we tend to overbook, sometimes. I do plan to try that lace scarf as my first lace project. However, I have a dozen (I counted them) UFO's so I have to whittle that total down, first. I've got just the right yarn, I think. ”
“ I finished a couple of UFO's (UnFinished Objects) since the last meetup. And Gloria is on the last few rounds of her laceweight yarn sweater. ”
“ We left the hiking to the young'uns. All the "trails" we saw required a 4-wheel drive vehicle. And the Smokeys were all around us. Awesome! And there was this quilt in Burnsville that kept going and going. Didn't see Cherokee. Where's that? That's a nation of Native Americans, no? ”
“ Can you guess where we were? In the northwestern part of North Carolina. Just a short drive (as the crow flies) from Asheville. We wish you could have been there! it was lovely, with the changing colors, and all. We'll tell y'all about it next Meetup. We have pictures, but you have to ask. ”
“ Your avatar - with all the yarn around you every where. ”
“ Hi! I love your picture! ”
