I am very, very sorry to reschedule this, but my husband has had a death in the family and we will be out of town this weekend. I hope you can all make it next week.

Please join us for knitting and peppermint hot cocoa. Bring those "deadline" projects or just start something new and enjoy some knitting by the fire!

Did you know today is "National Bittersweet Chocolate With Almonds" day? That's my favorite! I'll be sure to have a themed treat on hand!

You know darn well that if you don't plan to spend time with your stash it will get revenge on you!

Your hostess will provide coffee and soft drinks. Bring a snack or some wine to share and join us for some Mom Time with friends and your favorite project.

Whether you are working ahead on gift giving occasions, doing charity projects, or just trying out a new stitch, drop in and join us for some time spent working on your favorite project and swappin' stories.

Want to host? Just contact me and I'll put you in for a future date.

Dear Friends,

This is Claudia Booker and I am a doula and midwife birth assistant in Washington DC. I am writing to request your personal assistance in making the “Heads Up on Infant Mortality” DC project a success.

This project is being done in several cities by midwives, midwifery students and doulas to bring awareness to the need for improved maternal and infant health care. We are also committed to equal access to quality midwifery care for all women, regardless of the income and insurance.

Because you are a birth advocate you are aware of the increasing number of infants who are beginning life with many challenges.

"Heads Up on Infant Mortality".

This project is to promote public awareness regarding the huge numbers of babies who do not reach their first birthday by knitting or crocheting infant hats in remembrance of them. This project is being done in Chicago, Florida, New Mexico, Richmond Virginia, and DC by me. We hope to present these infant hats to our local elected officials during the last week in September. At the end of the public awareness project the DC hats will be given to infants as "Going Home" gifts when they live the local NICU units. We need as many infant hats as we can get!!!!

A client of mine told me how heart was touched by the hats and blankets her preemie twin daughter received as a gift when they left the Washington Hospital Center NICU.

The patterns are on my web site www.BirthingHandsDC.com. Infant hats should be sent to me by September 15th. Recently WPFW Radio did an interview on this project and I hope to get more press attention.

Two DC Mocha Moms are sponsoring teaching sessions for those who do not knit or crochet. Shayla Boyd- Gill is hosting a “Crochet-Teach In” on Tuesday August 11th, JuJu Harris is hosting a “Breakfast Knit and Teach In” on August 15th. For more information about these events, please call me at 202-236-1764.

Please make a pledge to knit or crochet 10 hats by September 15th for the Heads Up on Infant Mortality DC project. More would be better. I would like to flood local NICUs with these hats as “Going Home” gifts of their babies.

Grab your odd balls and tickly novelty yarns- we're playing a game of naughty, naughty dress up!

Our very favorite Slumber Party consultant, Jamie, will be bringing some "mannequins" for our naughty creations, so come ready to knit or crochet some furry, patterned, embellished, and otherwise fabulous "sheaths" for her naughty wares!

This evening's knitting is going to keep us all in stitches as we combine a few of our favorite things. Hot and cold beverages will be provided, please feel free to bring a bottle of wine or a snack to share.

I need a chocolate fix and a yarn fix! If you do too, join me at Buzz Bakery and get both!

Remember, if you neglect your stash it will get revenge, and it's not too early to start planning your holiday projects.

Hi everyone... Join us for coffee, treats, and any variation of needlework! Buzz Bakery has a delicious assortment of decadent pastries and great coffee, in addition to comfy couches and chairs. If it's nice out, they also have outdoor seating. Navigation there can be kind of weird right now due to construction, so if you don't know where Slater's Lane is, you might want to give them a call before you come.

Hope to see some familiar and non-familiar faces! Remember - you don't have to know how to knit to come - we love to help people learn! And crocheters or other needleworkers are welcome.

Okay, so technically there may be nothing "zen" about this afternoon, but the fiber arts can be quite calming and meditative.

Come join us so you can spend time with your "stash" and recharge for the week ahead!

As always, I provide the coffee and soft drinks and you bring a snack to share- doesn't have to be fancy, the emphasis is on the "share."
