NOLA Knit and Stitch June Meeting

As many of you know, this is a reorganization of the New Orleans Needlework meetup, as we are no longer able to contact our previous organizer. I know this is short notice for an April meeting, but that's just the way it worked out this time. You will have the normal notice for the May meeting.

Our group has so much fun together, we didn't want our meetup to dissolve. Although I think our usual group would still have found a way to meet together, by using this venue, we can contact each other more easily and we can invite new people to join our gathering.

Ms. Georgia has graciously offered her home as a meeting place and we wholeheartedly thank her. Ms. Georgia runs a bed and breakfast out of her historic home on Magazine Street and has the room to house us and our needlework baggage for the meetings. She has stated she will provide tea and coffee for the meetings. Of course, if anyone wants to bring a snack or two, they can do so. We know that some people may come to the meeting directly after work or such and may not have eaten supper before coming. You are welcome to bring any food that you might want, or Mojo's coffee house is about 4 buildings down from Ms. Georgia's house, and they do serve food. I will provide complete directions to Ms. Georgia's location as soon as possible, hopefully with a map.

We commonly bring a project to work on at the meeting and most of us bring in new yarns we gotten in our stashes, new books we may have gotten and we generally share information and free patterns with each other. Feel free to bring in anything you want to show off, or anything you might need help with. I promise if we can't help you right then, one of us will find a way to help in the long run. Its really great to be able to visit with people who have similar interests in, and appreciation of, hand-made items.

If you have trouble with transportation, mention it on the board; it's possible someone may be passing your way and can help out. You never know unless you try. smile

I'm looking forward to seeing y'all again. I enjoyed the last meeting. Unfortunately, my car broke down when I left and it is STILL in the shop. It's costing $4,300 to fix but should be finished Mon. June 2. ! If anyone lives towards Metairie, Kenner, etc. and would be interested in carpooling future meetings, I would be thrilled! Plus we both save gas!

    •  I was impressed with Ellen, who had not knitted for 20 years, but wanted to get started again. She brought several sweaters and a wonderful dress she had knitted in the past, so I foresee that she will before long be producing gorgeous garments again!
    •  We had a fantastic June meetup! We met our youngest member to date, eight year old Camile. She came to learn to crochet & left knowing how to chain stitch. I also learned to crochet when I was eight & that is why I like knitting Continental. Welcome Camile & your mom Julie! We also met Ellen & several other lovely ladies who were fantastic knitters & crocheters. Welcome to our group & we hope to see you all next month! Congratulations to Gloria Hicks who had a library named after her this month. If you come to our group you can meet Gloria & her husband Ed, then you can say that YOU have a friend who has a library named after her! Ed, I hope you say a little about Gloria on our page so the others can hear about her accomplishments & congratulate her. Gloria is much too unassuming to honk her own horn. If anyone wants to get together before the next meetup, just let me know. You can come over & give me an excuse to sit & knit! If I'm sittin'...I'm knittin'! LOL!

Really enjoyed meeting everyone! Thanks to Angela and Ed for the knit tips for fixing my goofy blanket - I hope to be able to show you the results at the next meet-up.

Everyone was so nice and helpful. We really enjoyed meeting everyone and enjoyed our time there.
    •  It was fun helping beginners, listening to those who had "left" knitting but were coming back, watching some doing hardinger (really!) and just generally hanging out with a bunch of friends. Great time was had.
