Intarsia or Duplicate stitch?

I?m looking to make some skullie hats for a budding rock star. I have done tapestry crochet with very good results and I would like to make some very basic knit skullie hats with the ever-popular skull motif of which I have plenty of charted patterns. So in your opinion would duplicate stitch be easier or should I pick up a class in intarsia? Please note I have never done intarsia before.

I don't intarsia. Been meaning to learn, though.
Here's a fair isle pattern. If you can follow a chart you can fair isle.
I haven't knit this hat yet but it's in my queue. I know Jess has knit them.

I agree, fair isle is easier. but, usually this means patterning all the way around (see the example hat link in the previous response.) however, if your goal is a single skull on a solid background intarsia is a good way to go. (though you could use fairisle, and just carry the other color thread behind throughout the bat... also makes it a nice warm thicker hat. Do gauge, because intarsia does change the stiches/inch and you may be surprised now much that will change the size of the finished project.

Duplicate stich, to me, does not look as nice as intarsia or fairisle when you want a large something (like a skull) but that's just me. (shrugs)

I'm working on my own variation of the "Good Luck Dragon Scarf" without the pattern(more $ needed for yarn) however the pattern is available and won first place in a contest.

Mine will be a purple variation using Squiggle in the colorway "Circus"

This free style whimsy pattern will allow me to eat up a few orphan balls of bright colors I have in my stash.

My two cents is that the HelloYarn hat We Call Them Pirates is a VERY easy Fair Isle. Are you on Ravelry? There is an entire skully group (of which I am, of course, a member) and there is a listing of skully patterns. If you aren't on Rav, I can list them.
