This is the message recently received from Flying Sheep Yarns which we discussed Tuesday.

"We all know about the national economy, we all know about the local economy, not to mention gas prices. What you might not know is that one yarn industry group estimates that 75% of knitters are now working from their "stash". In other words, not spending money in yarn stores!

That means yarn stores are closing for lack of business. There are lots of reasons why, and a lot of the reasons are good; more yarn at big box stores, on line, knit picks, etc. But none of these options is as satisfying in the long run as a yarn store run by people who have you at heart.

I love my business, I love the world of fiber and color, and I love being here to see what artists you are all becoming, and I don't quit anything. (I've even talking to my ex-husband again.) But I'm not magic, and I can't do it all myself.

I want to conquer this economy by making my business more professional. I want to use new technology to keep track of customers, inventory and marketing, and finally get a handle on special orders - definitely our weak spot. To do this I need money, so I joined Prosper.com in an attempt to get a loan.

Prosper.com is a person to person lender, where people looking for money are matched with people interested in investing. It's all above-board, I did my due diligence and the Prosper website has plenty of additional information. Basically, I've asked for a loan to improve our marketing, and so far, eleven people are willing to lend me 7% of what I asked for.

So now I'm asking you, loyal customers, to go to Prosper.com and bid on my loan! It's easy; you sign up, read a bunch of legal stuff and Prosper checks your credit rating to verify your identity. Then you verify your bank account and bid on the loan. It's a lot like signing up to pay your bills on line. Not stressful at all. And while you could bid on the entire loan, (wow, wouldn't that be great?) the minimum bid is $50. That's less than one sweater, and you are going to get it back, with interest!

loan #322125

As of Monday afternoon, we need 175 people at $50 or 87 people at $100 or 59 people at $150...you get the idea. The loan request expires Wednesday around noon. Any activity on our part will boost visibility on the site, which will attract more general lenders.

Please call if you have any questions, 623-1640. And thanks for reading this far, I hope you can help - I really love being here for you!
